~The countdown to Christmas: Chapter one~

Another morning; another day of waiting. She leapt out of bed, frantically opened her curtains and took a deep breath of anticipation as she took in the outside scene. The sun, bright and cheery, saying it’s good morning from behind a light spread of mystical fog and the ground glistening as though covered in the world’s supply of glitter. She skipped downstairs and darted straight to her advent calender which stood excitedly on the kitchen work surface. She tore open the current day with her finger nail, gobbled down the snowman-shaped chocolate and took a deep sigh. “I wish Father Christmas was coming now,” she exclaimed…

To make four biscuits, you will need…

  • 100g butter
  • 100g sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon
  • 150g wholemeal flour
  • 1 tbsp carob/ cocoa powder
  • 8 raisins

What to do…

  • Simply beat together the butter and sugar
  • beat in the egg and then mix the flour and cinnamon
  • Form into a ball and roll out on a lightly-floured surface
  • Using a round cutter, cut out four faces and transfer onto a tray covered with baking parchment
  • Using a flower shaped cutter, cut out four beards and place towards the bottom of the faces
  • With the left over mixture, place back in your bowl and mix in the carob powder/ cocoa powder
  • Make four hat shapes and place on top of the faces
  • Add the raisins for eyes and then bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes

Any excuse to bake like a child, eh?
